Gardening in the Outerlands of San Francisco

SF Botanical Garden Membership Contest

The SF Botanical Garden is giving away a free Garden Lover membership in honor of its 70th birthday. My membership just expired, so it would rock to win it. We could only afford a single membership, so only one of us could go to events for members. It meant neither of us ever went. The Garden Lover membership is good for two!

I can’t really remember my very first trip to Strybing. Four years ago I walked from North Beach to Golden Gate Park while on vacation, and know I wandered through the garden a little. Matti and I have took two semesters of Plant ID through City College on Saturday mornings. Most of our classes were held at Strybing, where we briskly walked all over the gardens in search of specimens.

The gardens will always be a special place to Matti and I. I’ll never forget the day we covered Araucarias. For months we were perplexed by the amazing Norfolk Island Pines all over town.
