The Wagon Continues to Rock

The Succulent Wagon continues to rock. Gotta love the ever-blooming Fuchsia thymifolia.

Max and Marley

Gophers have taken over the grass. They also ate an Echium plantagineum and a Festuca ovina ‘Glauca’ (not super sad about that one). The worst part is the taunting. They’ll poke their tiny little heads out of their holes making the dogs crazy.

  1. Beautiful use of a wagon. Although, I can’t help but be a little sad remembering the days when wagons were for ridding really fast down hills. My poor parents.

  2. Too bad about the grass. But its a blessing in disguise. Now you can take it out and you have more room to plant succulents!

  3. did you get a new dog???

  4. I was planning on planting newly purchased succulents in a wagon like yours…was wondering what soil or soil preparation you put into the wagon? Thanks for this idea- I love it and can’t wait to try it on my own.

    • Hi Cindy,
I think we just threw some regular potting soil we had laying around in the wagon. We should have added something like course sand or fine lava rock for better drainage though. Right now if the soil is dry it’s hard as a rock. I’ve been thinking about giving the wagon a makeover (putting in new dirt and rearranging the plants) for a few weeks now, but haven’t gotten around to doing it. Make sure you punch holes in the bottom of the wagon for drainage. Post pictures on our facebook page when you’re done. We’d love to see it. Good luck!
