This might be the last of the Wisconsin garden posts. These pics were taken at Olbrich Gardens in the shade garden. Looking for something fun to do this weekend? We’re headed down to Menlo Park for Sunset Magazine’s Celebration Weekend today. It will be happening on Sunday too.

Cornus… alternifolia? controversa? how tall was it?
Nice pictures.

I’d say it was 30-40 feet tall. Thanks for trying to figure it out!

Very likely Cornus controversa as I’ve never heard of a C. alternifolia getting even close to that size. Check out the picture on this page – looks very similar to me. Must have been an impressive tree in bloom at 30-40 feet tall!

i love hostas and in fact almsot bought one today to place in my vertical garden but remembered the snails that come down from the ivy above!!! but I have heard that there is a new snail resistant hosta – you do not know it by chance?

I’ve never heard of a snail resistant hosta, but it sounds pretty cool. There aren’t very many hostas here in San Francisco. Most likely due to the snail issue. I think they like colder winters too.
