It’s not possible to stay in Fort Bragg and skip out on the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens. Even at the end of November it was looking fabulous. As a full blown fuchiaholic I ogled the fuchsias for quite some time. There was a lot of ogling succulents and heather going on too.
Everything you need to know to grow a Fuchsia Standard if you really want. Yay for Fuchsias!

I interned at the MCBG in 2003 and it was one of the happiest times of my life. Beautiful gardens and wonderful gardeners and volunteers.

Fuchsia heaven out there ! A trip to Mendo is the best decompression I know – a beautiful coast and great gardens-what could be better ?

I absolutely adore, adore, adore Fuschias! Only one slight dilema…they do not adore our weather in San Antonio. I’ve tried them several times, but short of trying them as a house plant I’ve decided just to admire them from better suited climates. They look so nice until it starts to get hot and then they’re toast! These are all gorgeous!!

Ooh, I wish these did better for me, although Plant Delights Nursery occasionally offers a more heat tolerant one. Beautiful photos!

Oooohhhh, I ‘ve been meaning to go there. Thanks for the inspiration. Another cool, not-to-miss ecological wonderland (that truthfully I’ve only read/heard about but have yet to visit) is the loop trail around the ecological terraces in Jughandle. From what I’ve heard, there’s pygmy forest, bog plants, coastal scrub, and maybe redwoods. Something like 7 different ecosystems within a short hike from each other. Yay for Mendo.

You MUST go!!!! We almost went to the pygmy forest, but decided to skip it. The one big drawback to roadtrips this time of year is short days. It’s hard to cram everything in when the sun goes down at five.
