On Christmas Eve we cruised down Highway One to Big Sur for the day. We love the Big Sur Spirit Garden. One of the first blog posts I ever wrote was about this sweet place. It’s a definite must-stop for the succulents alone. Rumor has it the owner has an amazing private garden, too.
The leucadendrons are starting to go into their crazy bloom action. Love the Opuntia poking through.
I’m a wee bit embarrassed to say I’m not sure which mega-cactus this is. Help!
We always stop at Cafe Kevah at Nepenthe for lunch on the patio. Love their gardens, too.
Gratuitous pics of CA natives, turquoise seas, amazing beaches & mountains coming soon.

It’s Cafe Kevah! Every time I stop by there I take my picture in front of the sign. Just swap the letters and it becomes my cafe!
For big cacti I just say Cereus peruvianus even if it isn’t.
I’m so glad I am moving closer to Big Sur. Such a pretty area to explore.

Cereus repandus? Hard to tell without a close look at the spines. Love me some Big Sur!

Big Sur is on my list for 2012 (along with San Diego, Arizona and Maine ) it’s been at least 10 years since I’ve been. Unforgivable really .. a 4 hour drive is nothing ! Overnight in Big Sur and a stop at Santa Cruz Botanical on the way home..the perfect 3 day weekend…Thanks for the heads up on this place.

So cool. I love all these photos. Thanks for sharing a little of your warm scenery. It’s comforting to us northern folks. It’s a fairly mild winter this year – 20 degrees this morning with windchills at 9. Brrr!
